One of my favourite Arturo Fuente cigars is Arturo Fuente Opus X. These cigars are truly special and today, I would like to tell you more about them.
A brief history
It all began about a hundred years ago when Arturo Fuente immigrated from Cuba to Key West, Florida and started production of the finest cigars. He founded a company in 1912 and faced many challenges along the way. However, the quality of cigars has always remained impeccable.
He and his family were blending and rolling the best cigars, bringing some new elements and flavour to each creation. After some time, his company became an empire. Today, it is one of the largest and reputable cigar producers in the world, which is famous for the finest blends of rare tobaccos.
Fuente Fuente Opus X
If you have never had a chance to try this cigar, you should definitely do so. It is tightly and professionally wrapped, so even holding and inspecting such a cigar is a joy. Fuente Fuente Opus X offers complex notes of spices, dried fruits and pepper. As the cigar develops, flavours become even more intense and deep.
It is a pure pleasure to behold, feel, taste and smoke a cigar like this. It will definitely bring you a rich sensory experience that engages all of the senses with pleasure. Fuente Fuente Opus X is one of the finest cigars in the world, which you should try at least once in your life.
Arturo Fuente Opus X 20th
It is a limited edition premium cigar, which symbolizes Opus X’s two decades of making a magnificent cigar. The Opus X 20th Anniversary is a medium-strength Robusto, which has a smooth flavour profile with notes of cedar, cream, and spice. Like the previous one, it has the Dominican Sungrown Habano wrapper and contains Dominican Tobacco in the binder and filler. Even though a cigar is powerful, its flavour becomes smoother as it develops. I would highly recommend Arturo Fuente Opus x 20th for some special occasions. The perfect cigar, which is an absolute pleasure to smoke.
Things to know about Arturo Fuente Opus X
It is all about the wrapper
In the past, many people used to think that the quality wrapper couldn’t be grown in the Dominican Republic. However, Carlos Fuente Jr. planted 37 acres of Cuban seeds there and proved that they were wrong. Nowadays, oily Corojo Cuban-seed wrappers grow at the Chateau de La Fuente farm. It is worth mentioning that even today not many farmers in the Dominican Republic grow wrapper leaves for premium cigars, which makes OpusX’s blend a true rarity. For many years, it continues to be a cigar of high demand with a unique and complex taste and aroma.
It is not that expensive
You have probably seen OpusX cigars on sale for high prices. In some venues, they can go up to $100 per piece. However, the brand’s suggested retail prices are about 15-20$. Still not cheap, but absolutely reasonable cost for a premium cigar like this.
The band has its meaning
Every band contains a number of symbols. Each of them represents something very significant to Fuente. All bands are made at Vrijdag Premium Printing in the Netherlands and are of the highest quality like everything else in the cigar.
Opus X cigars age behind the closed doors
While all the other Arturo Fuente cigars age on open shelves, OpusX cigars are stored in closed cabinets where they remain for at least a year. They age slowly and retain their flavours to eventually become one-of-a-kind cigars. They are also rolled in a specially designated area in the factory.
You won’t see the wrapper made by Fuente on any other cigar
No tobacco that grows at Chateau de la Fuente farm is for sale. They use leaves from those fields exclusively for Fuente cigars. If someone ever says that cigars of another brand contain the same tobacco as OpusX, you should know it is not true. They destroy whatever is not used. So, you can be sure that Fuente OpusX will deliver you a unique experience.
Project X from Planet 9
Before Fuente found an official name for the cigar, he used the name Project X from Planet 9 that was a reference to the kitschy films of Ed Wood. He wanted to use the word “opulent” and after going through the dictionary, he saw the word “opus”. Then he added the letter X and found this definition just perfect.
